I knew someone who suffered from Gout and it is definitely a hard disease to live with and do normal daily activities we take for granted as healthy people. I didn’t realize many of the things you bring to light here about the disease, it gives me a great understanding. This gives me great motivation to stay healthy, eat well and control my weight and blood pressure, especially since I am male and over 30 !

You’re right Leo. Prevention is better than cure. Most people do not aware that their poor diet will have bad consequences on their body. From my personal experience, your body will heal itself when you have correct living habits, and for gout sufferers, that would start with correct eating habits.

I remember having gout back in my late 30s. It was so painful, I could only wear sneakers, and it was tough to get them on. Back then, they said it was because of eating certain fancy food. That didn’t make sense to me as I never ate any of the foods in that list. Thankfully, I saw a podiatrist who gave me pills that made the pain go away. On occasion I feel a slight pain in my big toe, but nothing like what I had back then. I didn’t realize it could be a form a arthritis. A lot of good information here. Thanks!

Gout sounds really nasty! My Dad currently suffers with it, and there’s always certain foods and drinks that can trigger it off. I remember him being in bed for a week with his arm in pain because he had one glass of coca cola. Crazy, isn’t it?
So now, he has to be cautious of what he eats. There’s a lot of food he loves that he can no longer eat. Tomatoes being one of them.

Hello Neil. Fructose in the sugar might increase the level of uric acid, and that’s the reason why gout sufferers should reduce sugar in their diet. Tomato is very nutritious and very low in purines, and more research need to be done on why it can trigger gout attack. I didn’t know that gout is a form of arthritis so I just learned something from your article. It sure looks painful and it’s not pretty looking. With all the fast food restaurants I guess gout will be on the increase with fewer people eating vegetables. I didn’t know you can get at such a young age 30’s.
